My sister was recently in a boating accident in which she was seriously cut up with the propeller (and I'm not exaggerating when I say seriously). She has lost 5 inches of her sciatic nerve in her right leg. She remains in intensive care over a month after the accident. The doctors will not go in and try to repair it because they would have to destroy other nerves in the process & another fact to consider is that she has lost a great deal of the hamstring muscle (it was cut off by the prop also). They feel that her knee may be able compensate some & they will fit her for a brace so she'll be able to stand. Do you think she'll be able to walk ? I know if she does, it will not be any way normal, so are there good hospitals that may consider some experimental surgery or technology that may help?
