: Does anyone have anklosing spondelitis and ulcerative colitis. I am a lady of 52 and have been fighting
: this for 40 some years. And I can't take much in the way of medicine that helps the one because of the
: damage to the other part of the disease. I was 5 foot 7 when I was 17 and now I am 5 foot 2. I have much
: pain in my neck and shoulders. I have had carper tunnel surgury on both hands and a shoulder operated
: on.and I broke my lower leg falling on the ice last year. I would like to know how to treat this befor it causes
: me another health problem. I am menapausal but can't take the hormones.

I'm in my mid forties and recently got a rather dismaying bone density scan result. My doctor suggested ipriflavone, which is a sort of isoflavone (phytoestrogen). It is OTC, sold as a supplement. Some studies have shown that it has an estrogen-like effect, improving bone density. Maybe you could tolerate that.

Have you tried natural hormone replacement? It is supposed to have fewer side effects than the synthetic hormones. I've tried natural progesterone and found it a far better experience than the synthetic progestin versions - made me feel good instead of bad and MAY also improve bone density (not enough research to rely on it according to my doc). You have to get natural hormones from a compounding pharmacist, prescribed by a doctor who knows about them (check the Amercan College for the Advancement of Medicine -ACAM- website or try a naturopath).

Good luck!

Grace
