: : : took evista for 5 months & gained 10 lbs & think it made my fibroid grow. am 63 & have osteoporosis & now md wants me to take fosamax. any side effects? any alternative meds? am exercising daily & using lite wts 3-4 week with taking calcium supplements & calcios but bone density keeps decreasing. any suggestions

: : I am 64 and started taking fosamax. One doctor thinks I should take evista, but two others think that Fosamax is the most absorable for bones. I have had breast cancer so do not want to take evista. Also it is about 2nd or third down of the treatments for osteoporosis, not as effective, is what I mean. After 2 years I have gained bone. I exercise, don't watch my calcium intake as I should. Although I do take some.

: : I don't like anything smacking of hormones, which I guess evista is.
: : Good luck.

: Hi, I'm 65. Diagnosed w/moderate osteoporosis year ago, tried taking fosamax twice sev months apart. It didn't agree with me either time. Extreme fatigue, red splotches on joints.Dr. said reactions to it are rare ... he really likes it. Have friends who successfully take it and had 7% bone increase in two-year period. Have follow-up in two weeks and hope to try another med. Take Glucosamine and calcium w/ vit d & k for absorption. Blessings! Jane

Hi, I'm 64. I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis 2 years ago. I tried fosamax for two years and it didn't improve at all. Now, I am on Fosamax and Evista. I have no side effects with either one. I am just praying that they work. I, also, take 1200 mg of calcium every day. I know that Evista is better for you than Premarin because it is not a hormone and supposedly prevents breast cancer.
