: My 86 year old mom has bad osteo due mostly to previously undiagnosed parathyroidism. Her tests report much fracturing in back and hip highly affected. She is very petite so weight is not a problem. I would like to help her embark on an exercise program to increase strength and balance. Do you think she should consult with a physical therapist? Has anyone found this to be beneficial?
My Mom at 84 had a hip replacement. She was put on an easy exercise program by a therapist. it helped her get functional sooner and it has helped her feel better. It never hurts to exercise but at 86, your mother can't do very much in comparison to you. A therapist is a must so she doesn't overdo it or do the wrong kind of exercise
