: Hello Everyone,
: I am new here and have three aunts and one mother with osteoporosis. I am the ripe old age of 40 and am just now beginning to concern myself with this possible ailment in my future.
: What do you do, if anything, against the onset of osteoporosis? I just read at CaregiverZone.com that gallup did a pole of women with osteoporosis, and almost all of them wished they'd done something more to prevent it and thought that all women should do something preventative. A lot of these women were talking about the lack of freedom and mobility and how fractures had limited their social interactions... I don't know. It seemed like a wake-up call. I wondered if anyone had thoughts on the subject.
Not sure what the answer is. I also have aunts and a mother with osteoporsis. My mother is in quite bad shape and therefore I started early on to do all the right things to prevent it. I took HRT before I reached menopause, I eat right, exercise and I still have a sustantial loss of bone. I am classified at present in the Osteopenia stage (which is not very encouraging). I was recently put on Miacalcin and I guess I will just have to wait and see if I have any improvement on that. I am 55 years old and I am very afraid of this disease so I am contantly searching for answers. Hope you find the right thing to help you avoid this. I would encourage you to get a DEXA scan done so that you know where you are with density now. l
