: HI PLEASE HELP..MY MOM HAS THIS REAL BAD AND DOC TELLS HER THE TINIEST HIT CAN BREAK HER BONES.....SHE WAS JUST PUT ON FOSAMAX IS THIS GOOD DOES IT WORK?? ANY RECCOMENDATIONS FOR HER TO DO AND NOT DO, EAT NOT EAT, VITAMINS ETC..ANYTHING TO HELP HER BONES BE STRONGER....THANK YOU
My dad took the fosamax, it made him really queasy, so he played with the dosage til he could tolerate the full dose. It helped where he had osteopina(less severe form in the early stages)but not with the hard core osteoporosis. His mom and sister also had it and we had talked to his sister about hers a year ago. Apparantly when it is hereditary it is a malfunction of the parathyroid glands. They tested dad and sure enough his was parathyroid problems. The endocrinologist ran special blood tests to find it. Dad's sister had surgery and had hers removed and is now absorbing calcium normally into her bones!! Dad had the surgery yesterday. We are waiting to see if the one gland was enough. You may want to check and see if hers is parathyroid involved if it is it could be reversible!
