Hi Sara: It is not logical to put a Rod inside the bone, as the bone itself is fragile due to Osteoporosis.
The new procedure is " Kyphoplasty" and it is being done only on spine. You may visit kyphone.com to see the animated procedure. By the way it is a day surgury and done by Radiologists.
