: I'm confused about when/how to take calcium? with or without food? all at one time each day or spread it out? Know of any Research sources to support???
Hi Deb: From the research I have done, you should divide your doses of calcium. I take Citracal,
4 pills a day (1260 mg total), divided in two doses. You shouldn't take it with milk because it
prevents absorption. Otherwise, you can take it with meals. Citracal is calcium citrate, which
is not constipating whereas calcium carbonate can be constipating. for more info go to a search
engine and look up calcium supplements for more information. Good luck
P.S. it is interesting that none of the supplement bottles tells you how to take the stuff for
goodness sakes-- Also, you should take calcium Magnesium supplements in a ratio of 2:1; with
so if you take 1000 mg of calcium you should take 500 mg (approx) of magnesium.
