Miacalcin is recommended for postmenopausal women (5 years+). I am premenopausal and was prescribed. I called the manufacturer requesting the reasons for their limited recommendation. However politely, they refused to answer! Why? What have they found? Are they hiding something? Is Miacalcin dangerous for premenopausal women? Please be careful if you are premenopausal and this drug is recommended! There must be a reason for the runaround, it shouldn't be difficult to give me an answer to this nonspecific question, should it?
I started taking Miacalcin spray from the end of March '00 till August 1, '00. At which time my doctor took me off it because my head would pound when I coughed, bent over or exercised. He sent me for an MRI when he couldn't find a reason for this problem. MRI showed no problems. He sent me for a second oppinion to a neurologist with my MRI in hand after having been off the meds for 26 days. He too, agreed there was no problem. The day I got the all clear from the neurologist I went back on the miacalcin. Five days later I again stopped taking it because of the pounding in my head. One week later I had a mild stroke. I am 62 years old, athletic, low blood pressure and very good cholesterol numbers. Will never take the medication again.
