: : : I have been reading with interest the messages about Ipriflavones, and would be interested to hear if anyone taking them has experienced any side effects. I have severe osteoporosis, ( -2.5 spine, -3.5 hip ) and am unable to take the usual drugs prescribed. In fact I have problems taking even calcium supplements, so am always wary of anything new without input from others experiences. Thankyou. Lorraine.
: Lorraine--I too am unable to take the usual prescribed drugs--and because of side effects and questionable efficacy wouldn't even if I could. I had been on ipriflavone for 17 months when a second bone scan revealed a 81/2% increase in bone density of the spine, and 21/2% for the hip. No side affects. Several reputable double blind studies have shown very promising results, for actually increasing bone mass, and reducing pain. Even the most hyped prescribed drugs only claim a reduction in fractures, and prevention of further deteoriation--not increase in density. I am also taking a product called Bone Guardian which contains a dozen other minerals and vitamins besides ca, in the correct proportions found in bone, based on the somewhat obvious but mostly overlooked fact, that bone is composed of several elements besides ca. I am not taking flax seed oil but will begin (I've had some in the fridge for several months) based on the advice of one of your other replies. I hope that my good experience will be yours.
Bev and Joan, Thankyou both for your replies. As I live in New Zealand I don't have access to the same products available to you. Is there an internet address that I can purchase the same things you are taking? I know with the exchange rate between our two countries being so bad at the moment I would be paying twice the amount you pay, but it would be worth it to get the right product. I don't know if you are allowed to mention product names on this forum, so if not, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org Thankyou. Lorraine.
