: I know three people on it. Two have had no side effects but one had bloating and has recently gone off of it. I may not have this exactly correct but I've read that the way Fosamax works is that it deposits a substance onto your bone matrix so that new bone forms on top of it. Fosamax has a 10 year half life because it is basically "built" into your bone matrix. I've also read that about four years after taking Fosamax that your bones will be denser but not stronger because of the type of bone this builds so it can still break as easily.
I was going to go on the Fosamax (I am 37 with osteopenia) but decided not to for now. I am taking Ipriflavone, MCHC calcium, magnesium, manganese, vit D, vit K, vit E, boron, etc. Our bones and bone matrix needs alot more than just calcium. You also need consistent exercise. I've read that jogging is better than walking because it puts more stress on the bones. Good luck! It is very overwhelming!
