Will, I just had my third discotomy on the L4-5 on Feb 4th of this year. It was the first microdiscotomy and compared to the others it was a breeze. I was sore at the incision site and had spasms in my left hip, but I just called the nurse everytime I needed something. On the pain free question I really don't know because if you have nerve damage like I do the discotomy will give you a lot of relief but not get rid of all the pain. Good luck, Keith
