I can't believe this, but I also have Fireman's Fund for my W/C insurance carrier. Talk about a coincidence, huh? My ajuster is out of New York (Long Island, to be exact). How about you?
I also have a nurse that Fireman's Fund has hired to go with me to all my doctor's appointments. She actually works for IntraCorp. Do you have anything like that?
When I first got hurt, back in '81, I was ruled 40 % disabled. When I injured my neck in '91, I was ruled 100% disabled. F.F. fought my last case, saying they weren't responsible. They tried to say that I got hurt somewhere else, such as playing raquetball or something like that. It took almost 3 years in court for FF to be found liable. Then it was another 2 1/2 years before I started getting paid. I think that most of my neck problems stem from the fact that after I had the surgery, that's when FF told me they were going to fight the case. Because they refused to pay the doctors, I had no follow-up care at all. I am convinced that that didn't help my neck any. I am just happy that it all worked out in the end.
I have to say that FF, since they were found responsible, has been really great. They don't really question any of my bills and they are very quick in approving any type of treatment that I may need or any tests that a doctor might want to run.
As far as my settlement, I didn't take any big lump sum of money. They pay me my weekly wages and they take care of all my medical bills. They had offered quite a bit of money if I would sign off on the claim, but as bad as my neck and back is, I really couldn't afford to take that chance.
When did you get hurt and where are you as far as the claim process goes? If you have any questions about the court BS, I will be happy to tell you what I know.
