To Dr. Whitworth or anyone who can help

Hi Doc,

I'm going to talk to my doctor next week about changing from Kapinol (Kadian) to OxyContin. I know from experience with normal oxycodone that is much more effective for me than morphine (due mainly to side affects).

OxyContin has only been available in Australia for a short time, and my doctor knows very little about it. My concern is that I've read time and time again that for most people, OxyContin doesn't last its advertised 12 hours. My doctor may be unaware of this yet, so I am trying to find any articles written by doctors that talk about this problem.

I just wondered if you, Dr. Whitworth, have ever written anything on this subject, or know of any articles about it. The thought of spending 8 hours a day totally unmedicated is not appealing one, and this is what will happen if the stuff only lasts 8 hours. My doctor won't prescribe breakthrough medications, ever.

Any help you could give me would be most appreciated.
