I have a family member who is on oxycontin 20 mg/day. She wants to know if there's any difference in the time release if she takes a 1/2 of 40mg tablet instead. She can only get the 40mg, but doesn't want more than 20mg/day. Will all 20mg be released at once since the integrity of the tablet has been impaired by breaking in half? Also, how does the dosing/time release work? In 5 mg units dispersed evenly over the 10-12 hour period? Thank you for your time in responding.
