Hi Mike, The outside coating actually contains a dose of IR oxycodone to give you some instant pain relief. To remove would certainly not be a good idea. As mentioned by John, these tablets shouldn't be crushed, chewed, broken, or interfered with in any way, or you will receive the whole dose all at once. Best wishes,
