Justin,
The last time I hurt my neck, by moving a 600 lb. boiler, I felt the same thing you did in my neck, although my symtoms were on my right side and in my right arm. Anyway, I too thought that I had just pinched a nerve. It hurt like hell, but when I would work for a hour ot two, the pain would ease quite a bit. Every morning my neck hurt like hell but I would work some (plumbing) and the pain would ease.
After 3-4 weeks, I told my boss I was taking a week off to rest my neck and let this "pinched nerve" get better.
My first day off, when I woke up, my head was bent over to the right and stuck on my right shoulder. My right arm was bent over and behind my head. I couldn't move my arm or lift my head.
I went to the E.R. I ended up staying in the hospital almost a month. It turns out that my "pinched nerve" had reall been a herniated disc. I ended up having a cervical fusion done.My whole point is that I MIGHT have been able to avoid surgery and a lot of pain if I had gone to a doctor right away. He might have been able to tell me that I had a disc problem and I MIGHT have been able to take care of it another, less invasive, way.
Please go to a real doctor and tell him your symptoms. You might just save yourself a lot of agony down the road.Take care,
John V
