I have chronic neck pain. My doctor prescribed me Elavil 20mg at bedtime. I think the usual
dose for Elavil when used for depression is much higher, in the 150-200mg range.

At first, the Elavil made me very groggy. It was like valium or something. Gradually,
over about a week, the grogginess went away. I also had many more intense dreams
than usual while I was on Elavil.

I'm getting regular massage therapy for my pain now, as I want to stay off medication.
But the Elavil definitely helped me for about six weeks.

Good luck to your Hubby.

: Hubby had 1st pain mgmt appt today - had MRI in May, saw surgeon Aug. 1, doc said surgery wouldn't help (could worsen situation), went for 2nd opinion, 2nd said same. Diagnosed with DDD, DJD, 4 bulging, 2 herniated, three other suspect of degenerated discs. Went for walk (supposed to help) and went into acute spasm. Shooting/stabbing pains in back and legs, between shoulders. Numbness in legs. Radiating pain in legs. Feels like back is "exposed, and raw" like leaning on a cheese-grater.

: Has been taking Oxycontin, Percocet (for breakthru pain), Flexeril, Motrin 800. PM doc changed to Elavil (supposed to help with serotonin uptake to help fight pain?), Duragesic patch, Baclofen (antispasistic?).

: Anyone had any experiences with these? Good? Bad? Any relief? Also ordered bone scan...see other post.
