Alan,
I know where you are coming from. Two weeks ago, I went for a myleogram and CT scan on cervical and lumbar regions. I was supposedly just going to see if I needed another opeation on my lumbar area, and to check on my cervical area to make sure everything was alright up there.
When I got the tests results back, I was told that I had to have a fusion done in my lower back. Also, my neck, where I had a fusion done back in '91, was messed up. It seems that the bone that they fused into my neck has cracked, is crumbling, and is now pushing against my spinal cord in two different places. The risks of paralasis is there.
So my decision is not whether I need surgery on my back, but now it is whether I want to do my back first, or do my neck first. Hell of thing to have to decide.
I was out in my boat two days ago. For the first time ever, I actually contemplated turning the boat out towards the open ocean and just driving until I ran out of gas. This s*#t is getting old.
I have a couple of kids, so I won't do anything that stupid, but it did cross my mind. You take care and good luck to you,
