Hi Teygra, sorry the last message was so short, my back was in spasm and had to lie down. I switched from ocycontin three weeks ago. Mainly because of price. Now I wish I had done it sooner. Methadone is by far the cheapest longacting stong painkiller out there. I know there is a stereotype about this drug, however when you take a script to the pharmacy they know it's for pain. Methadone for detox is only given through approved clinics on a once a day dosing schedule. Not only is Methadone cheap but it is extremely effective. It has a 24 hour + halflife so when you awake you havn't slept past your next dose because you still have half of what you took yesterday working in tour system. For me the mild side effects, cranps, neausea, bloating all past ina couple of days. It takes about 3 days to titrate up to recomended dosage, because of the long halflife. I post at Mass general neuro, chronic pain forum alot. There are alot of people the that are also on meth and I agrree with all of htem that you need to be on a 4 dose a day schedule. Some docs do 2 a day because of the long halflife but if you can devide the total daily dose into 4 doses she will find it works best. I've seen alot of diferent comparison charts on narcotic strength, Everything is compared to morphine. stronger or greater than. Miligran for miligram I've seen meth is anywhere from 4 to 10 times stronger than morphine. I hope it works for her. Please let us know how she is doing.. David
