My name is Dan and I have been in chronic pain for over ten years. I have used every pain med know to man, as I am sure you all have. I have been using Methadone for at least five years and it is the BEST pain medicine that you can ever have. In the five years, I have rarely had to increase dosing to to inefectiveness (outside of the occassional breakthrough pain). Since I am not on the medicine all year round (I get a few months break here and there), the side effects are few and far between. Most significant of which are sleep-walking and very vivid nightmares. These all go away after a day or two.

I agree with david that a 4 to 6 times a day schedule is most effective.

Sorry about throwing my opinion in here, but I hope it helps

Dan

: : I read in one of your posts that you are taking Mehadone. I am just curious as to how long you have been taking it and what kind of relief you get from it.
: : I, too, take Methadone and would just like to compare notes with someone else who is taking it.
: : By the way, if it's not too personal, what is the cause of your chronic pain?

: : Thanks and take care,

: Hi John,I don't mind the question at all. I've had 3 failed back surgerys. A laminectomyL3-4-5 in93, A fusion in 96 L3-4-5 , I broke to screws within 2 years and when the went back in they found the fusion never grew, bone was dead, I had blown discs above and below now I'm fused from L1-S1, 10 good screws? 2 broken that couldn't be removed and 6 new rods, I jokingly call it Jacobs Ladder. The las surgery was 4/99 and I havn't been able to work since. I can only tolerate being on my feet about 20-30 minutes and spend alot of time on the floor. They switched me from 60mgs of oxycontin BID to 15mgs of meth 4 times a day. I couldn't be happier. There are alot of different conversion tables out there so it's hard to say if it's 4 or 6 times stonger than morphine. I read one article that thought that was way off and he did a study and came up with 10 times stronger. Regardless it has dropped my pain level from a constant 7+ to a base level of 3-4 It will spike back up if I push too hard. I"ve heard there is also a honeymoon fase with meth and more adjustments in dosage will be nescessary in future. For now I couldn't be happier. If your not taking it 4 times a day you would deffinately be playing catch up. Hope this helps. Whats you tory if you don't mind. You can e mail me at david.e.charles@att.net Take care. David
