: Bruce, just curious, how long have you had PD, and also can you give me more info on your scooter. I am thinking of getting one for my Dad, but hard to find good recommnedations. What are it's capabilites, brand name, etc. ALso how much they cost. Thanks!

Jane, I have had Parkinson's for eleven years and am 62 years old. My legs are getting weaker plus some pain. My house is set up perfectly for using the scooter. I actually have two of them, a smaaller one for inside the house and a large one for outside the house. I have a patio door where I can drive the scooter into and back outside. When I bring home a load of groceries, I transfer everything to a big basket on the front of the scooter and drive it into the kitchen where I can unload it without much effort. I saw these scooters advertized on tv, and they deliver it rghtto my door. The truck driver puts it together and instructs you how to use it. They offer a power lift that they will install in the trunk of the car. It cost $799 and unless you have some one with you to load and unload the scooter I wouldn't recommed buying the lift. It is to much for me to handle. The name of the company is Electric Mobility. Their phone number is 1-800 662 4548. The first one I bought was a big, sturdy model for outside work. I paid $3299 which included the lift and the basket. The lift cost $799 and the basket $100. The second scooter was a refurbished model. It is a little shorter than the firstone and cost $833. They sometimes offer special deals or one like the last one. I looked at a sheet from 1998 that listed models ranging from $1999 to $3899. They try to recommend a model that fits your life style. Since that time, I have seen similar models in hospital supply stores. So maybe you can find a cheaper one locally. I really love them and couldn't do without them. (The refurbished model looked like new when I received it.) They will send you literature with pictures of the various types plus the prices. Bruce
