: Walt and Darrell-
: Right after I posed the question on freezing and what you do about them, my Fall NPF magazine came and there was a wonderful article on freezing. You can all read it online at: http://www.parkinson.org/freezing2.htm
: It said walking and treadmill work were helpful in strengthening the legs but also using a hand-held laser or getting a specially trained dog. It discusses at what stage of the disease it usually hits and whether medication, mainly length of time/years taking Sinemet, makes an effect and freezing. It sounds like a real frustration and one I'm not looking forward to! This is a very readable article. Enjoy!
: p.s. Walt, my dad uses two canes as well; prefers them over the conventional walker he and my mother have.

Thanks Carole, I have tried some of the suggestions they gave and some of them have helped. I try counting cadence, both to myself and outloud, it seems to help the most, also rocking back and forth, and just relaxing, taking a deep breath and then try to take a big step.
