: I would write a list of questions and bring them in to the reprdutive endocrinologist's office with you. eg: What effect does PTU have on the fetus? Does it cross the placenta and cause hypothyroidism in the fetus? Would it be better to wait to conceive until my thyroid levels are normal? What does pregnancy do to thyroid hormones in a normal pregnancy? Good luck
: : Hello all,
: : I had a miscarriage five months ago. It was then discovered that I had a goiter and was hyperthyroid. My doctors want me to get pregnant again and try PTU this time. Any thoughts on side effects? I know this drug crosses the placenta, and am not thrilled about this. Also I still have the goiter and am only borderline normal on thyroid levels. I am seeing a reproductive endocronologist this week, but usually find you folks more helpful than most doctors. ha
: : Thanks in advance for sharing any thoughts. Jo-Ann
Its always so good to hear from people on this board. I know a few people who were hypo when pregnant but no one who gets hyper, so you guys are a big help ! Jo-Ann
