I don't know about the average, but the recomended is anywhere from 20-35 depending on age {if your in your teens they prefer it if you gain 30-35}. and i think the recomended weight gain decreases if the woman is over weight, but i'm not 100% sure about that. i Gained 70 with my first {lost about half..still trying to lose the second half} gained about 20 with my second...it was lost within a few wks since i didn't gain much more weight than the baby and all the stuff that goes along with it {water, extra blood, placenta that sort of thing} With my first i gained about 20lbs in the first 5-6 months...the second few months is when i put the majority of the weight on...as much as 2-3 lbs a week at it's peak, all i did is eat and sleep when i was pregnant though...no wonder, hehe. With my second i was much more active and chose my snacks wisely, eating carrot, celery sticks and fruit for snacks instead of chips and chocoate.
