: Does anyone know the effects of getting a colonoscopy during pregnancy, or a sigmoidoscopy? Are there any risks? My stomach has been just awful latley, and I'm really concerned as to what it is. I'm 8 weeks, but the stomach problems are the same as before I was pregnant only 90% worse right now. I'm really scared about this.
: Also, is it normal to feel different when you urinate at this stage? It used to just flow, but now it's like I have to keep pushing, like theres pressure.
: Thanks for any advice. As many people out there who want to answer me... PLEASE do!
: I don't know what to do about my stomach, I have no appetite, and I'm concerned. My stomach keeps me up all night, and theres abosolutley no way I can train myself to sleep on my left side.
: Please give me some input.:)
: Thankyou so much.
Do you have IBS? Have you seen a doctor about the "stomach" problem before? What did
he/she say? I've worked as a nutritionist in a prenatal clinic for 2 years and I know that changes
in hormones can definitely affect the GI tract: loss of appetite, nausea, heartburn etc, etc. It
sounds like those hormones are making your GI problem even worse. I'd talk to your doctor about
seeing a specialist if you haven't already done that. My guess is that they wouldn't recommend a
colonoscopy during pregnancy unless you had some sort of blockage. But maybe you could try
a special diet or take something to relax your GI ... something to dicsuss with a doc. It sounds
horrible. The good news is that hormones are constantly changing during pregnancy, so perhaps
this is just a phase that will pass in a couple of weeks. Hang in there!! LynnB
