: i am 24 weeks pregnant, have had on and off bleeding from 13 wks to 19 weeks. Dr. believed I had an abruption because the ultrasound showed a blood clot behind the placenta. Last week I took a blood test which showed that my protein "s" was low. now they want me to take a low dose aspirin every day. So far my urine, blood pressure and urine showed no signs of problems. Why am I taking the aspirin? considering my abruption, is it worth the risk, as I understand aspirin can cause placenta abruption? Please help!!
Hiya, I am not entirely sure that this is the exact reason but I know that aspirin thins the blood. It is given to elderly people. My gran used to have to take 1/2 tablet a day just for maintaining good health as she got older. If are prone to clotting this could be the reason. Sounds sensible enough....but like I said I am no expert. Hope it helps a little and good luck with the pregnancy. Claire
