i've had both...the only difference i noticed was i had more back pain afterwords (i had none with the epidural) with the spinal. But the spinal wears of much much quicker so your not stuck in recovery for nearly as long.
the procedure is the same as far as inserting them...a spinal is one shot though and there is no tube or anything stuck in your back...with the epidural they leave the tube in you.
i would recomend the spinal for a planned c section....less time in the recovery room.
you can feel a bit with the spinal though (no pain though), you can feel pulling and tugging when they are taking the baby out, i felt nothing at all with the epidural.
