I had my tonsils and adenoids removed at the age of 20. It greatly reduced the number of infections I was getting, so it was truly worthwhile. My "room mate" in the hospital was a 12 year old. She was eating hamburgers the next day while I was still on jello and pudding, but recovery was really not that difficult. That was 22 years ago, so you'd think that technology, etc. would have come a long way since then. I wouldn't be overly concerned. I'm sure you will do well.
Also, when my younger son was 5, he had his adenoids removed due to obstruction. This helped (to a degree)with his sleep apnea. We were told that since you are getting the adenoids removed, you might as well have tonsils removed at the same time.
Best wishes, hope all goes well as it did for us. Post back and let us know how you did.
