: Hi...I am 17 years old and my mom died unexpectedly in her sleep when i was 10.
: The autopsy came back with nothing so it went on the record as "natural death of undetermined origin".
: For years this has troubled me, and i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of someone dying in their

Hi Lauren,
I'm sorry about you having lost your mum at such a young age.
Has anyone in your family ever fainted at all?
There is a heart condition called the Long QT Syndrome that can cause sudden death often during sleep. It seems to happen to the very healthy fit people who wouldn't normally suspect anything was wrong with them.
This condition won't show up on autopsy because its a problem with the electrical activity of the heart, and so to look at the heart it will appear normal, the only way to check for this now would be to have the rest of the family have an ECG to see if anyone else has this also, because its mainly a genetic condition so if your mum did have this and not know, it could have been passed on to her children unknowingly too.
I know this because I have passed this condition on to four of my 5 children, I didn't know until my daughter started fainting, now that we do know about this we are being treated for it and all is much better.
I don't want to worry you with this, but thought you might like to know that this could be a possible reason for the loss of your mum.
