I too have polycythemia vera ruba.i have had the
disorder since 1987;i was put on hydoxyurea right
away & also blooding letting was started.i agree it is not a pleasant thought to be on any toxic drug. I did ask if i cd go off it ever & was told no.First i had diaherra & went off for 10 days but 2nd try my system seem to calm down &adjust to the drug a bit better.
I now also have diabetes & asthma & wonder if that
was brought on by the disorder or if there is any connection..my Doc doesn't give out too much info re what the future will bring. I feel fortunate the treatment does control it. i have gone to 2
blood lettings every month as b/4 it was every 3 mos.
Keep your chin up.. a cure is always possible.
