: i am scared to death to have this test done , can someone let me know what to expect ? an e.m.g to my arm , mostly elbow , will this be painful , and how painful will this be / please answer someone. Carol, I had an emg on my left arm and my right leg. There is some discomfort when they place the needles in the hand and foot because there isn't much between the skin and bone. They send electricity in different areas to detect how fast the response time is to check if the muscles and nerves are conducting right. There is some discomfort the test took approx 2 hours because of the multiple areas they did. Hope this is helpful to you feel free to write back if you have any further questions.
