Even though I myself do not have RSD my mother does. She has suffered with this dystrophy for over ten
years. The injury my mother suffered did not seem significant at the time but unfortunately it has been turned
her life upside down. While cleaning an office area at a local hospital she pricked her figure on a piece of glass.
A few days later she was in the emergency room because the tip of her finger started to turn black. Every-
thing physically has been down hill since then. Fortunately, my mother did not lose her finger but unfortunately
my mother has lost so much more. Little by little this dystrophy has robbed her of the independence and well-
being. She has her good day and her bad days. The worst time of all is in the morning. Every inch of her
body is in pain and I see her as she slowly moves about trying her best to maintain her composure but at
time this illness mentally drains her and she becomes frustrated and adjitated remember how vibrant she
used to be. Due to the illness she can no longer work and has limited resources. Even throughout all of this
my mother is my greatest inspiration. For the most part my mother always has a smile on her face and
she is extremely humorous. She loves people and people seem to be drawn to her. Being an outsider
thoughout all of this is extremely difficult. I see how she struggles during the time she spend with me and I
do my very best so that she will continue to be in high spirits. When I see her I do not see her illness, I see
my mother, friend, and confidant.....but unfortunately because this illness does not mame or is a blantant open
wound the majority of the healthcare providers do not believe that it is a true illness. I recently found a website
which has a lot of information regarding this dystrophy. You can find it at www.rsds.org. They have a new
letter and information that you may find helpful. My prayer are with everyone who suffers with this terrible
ailment and also with those of you who must standby and watch this happen. God be with all of us!!!
