: I have a history of RLS--was using restoril with good relief. Now I am 28 weeks pregnant and can't take restoril-- I am taking magnesium 1000 mg, calcium, valarian and at times kava, kava. I take a jacuzzi bath at night which helps me fall asleep but when I wake a couple hours later the aches and twitches are very bad. It has even moved to my arms. Benadryl makes me twitch more and not sleep. I take hydrocodon (vicodin) which helps but it seems like I am needing to take more and more to get it to work. I talked to a pharmacist and most of the medications exept narcotics are not recommended during pregnancy. Can anyone make other suggestions??? I am desporate as I am not sleeping and am working full time to support my family--I can't afford not to sleep...
I had this phenomenon during all 3 of my pregnancies. Try getting up and doing something instead of laying in bed. You will sleep eventually, I used to do laundry at midnight and I too had to get up for work. At the end of my pregnancy the doc finally gave me phenobarb so i would sleep before delivery. Ask about that. Also, are you swelling and hypertensive. Watch for this, it seems to irritate the RLS. Hope this helps.. Good luck
