Toe nails become brittle when cutting because they are so thick for one thing. For another thing, we wear socks and nylons which can pull the oils and moisture out of the nail plate. Try applying a good nail oil atleast twice a day to the plate. Maintaining proper oil levels helps to elevate the natural moisture level which keeps the nail plate flexible. There are a great many good quality nail oils out there -- If there is a Sally Beauty Supply near you, you can purchase a 1 oz. bottle of Botanical Oil for less than $8.00. It contains jojoba and vitamin E -- both excellent oils for skin and nails.
