: I am a 57 year old white female. All my life I have had very good hair with natural curl easy to style. I have been coloring it for about 15 years. Color has been done by professionals at all times. Recently I have been experiencing a loss of body. My hair has become more difficult to manage. I am not on any medication. Is this just a normal reaction to the aging process?
You bet it is! As we age, our skin, hair and nails begin to lose not only elasticity, but the protein levels decline. My hair used to just about stand on end when I would blow it dry because it had so much 'body' -- now (at 52) It takes a lot of styling aids to keep it from laying flat to my scalp. You might try having your hairdresser texturize your cut with a razor -- at least it will add more movement and a little bit of 'body', or try a different hairstyle or length.
