: I recently went to the Vidal Sassoon Student Academy for a perm, when I got there they told me that they couldn't perm
: my hair because I had colored it. So instead they put many many layers in my hair along with some color slices. Now , because my hair is bone straight, my hair looks kinda
: frizzy and weird . I curled it with my iron and it looks great, but straight, the layers just don't work.
: Is there any kind of perm I can use AT ALL??? I really don't like my hair like this.
: Thanks in advance

You can use a perm designed for hair with varying degrees of porosity. One is called 7th Dimension, although I forget who makes and distributes it; check your local supply house or salons to see if they carry it. I would first begin by 'clarifying' your hair with Redken's PreArt (applied to dry hair for 10 mminutes) then apply a coating of Redken's Cleansing Cream shampoo (directly on top of the PreArt). Work this into a lather, leave it on for 5 minutes, then dampen your hair and work it into a lather, shampooing as usual. Rinse for 5 minutes to remove all traces of shampoo and treatment. Towel dry the hair. The hairstylist should wrap your hair in large rods using very little tension, and check for curl formation every 5 minutes. It can be done -- I've done it for many years with no problems. It just takes a little more caution and expertise to perm dimentionally colored hair.
