: I have dry skin growing under my fingernail that seems to be attaching itself to the nail and when I clip them it looks as if it is part of my nail, making them look very thick. I also have little dents in some of my nails that look like someone has been sticking it with a pin. Also the white part at the top of my nails seem to be moving all the way down my nail, and it's starting to do that on several of my nails, soon my whole fingernail will be white.
Any drastic change in the nail plate is a cause for concern, and from your description of your nail plate, I suspect you may have aquired psoriasis of the nails. Psoriasis of the nails is characterized by tiny irregular 'dented' circles in the nail plate and may also effect the surrounding skin. Use your search engine, type in 'psoriasis' and look for the web site of The Psoriasis Foundation. They have an excellent picture and article about psoriasis of the nails. This nail irregularity is often mistaken for excema and needs to be properly diagnosed and treated by a dermatologist who understands nail diseases and disorders. It will not 'cure' itself!
