: : I have a problem, black lines on my nails. The lines have been there for years. I have recently started to get them on other nails, what can I do? What does it mean? Can I get rid of them without going to a doctor thru herbs or something please? : Are the lines very tiny and look like you may have gotten a splinter between the nail plate and the nail bed? If so, it is just a 'splinter hemmorage and will grow out with the nail plate. However, if the lines are dark brown to black, are larger than a normal 'splinter', and run from the cuticle to the free edge, then you may have a mole growing in the matrix of the nail, in which case you should immediately seek the advise of a dermatologist as a nail 'mole' can be malignant.
