: MY GIRLFRIEND, HER HANDS LOOK TERRIBLE, NAILS ARE SHORT AND SHE IS ALWAYS PICKING THE SKIN ON HER HANDS, RAW. THEY LOOK TERRIBLE. I WOULD LOVE TO PROPOSE, BUT HER HANDS EVEN BLEED. I LOVE HER ALOT, DO NOT KNOW WHAT
: CAUSES THIS. SOMETIMES THEY LOOK OK, BUT OF LATE THEY ARE GOD OFFFUL. ANY SUGGESTIONS. I BOUGHT HER HAND CREAM. STRESS VITAMINS. IS IT THE JOB OR IS IT ME?

Your girlfriend sounds like a 'cannible' nail biter to me. Not only does she chew on the nail plate, but the surrounding skin as well. Nail biting is a 'nervous tic' habit -- the nail biter is on a quest for 'order'. Do her a really big favor and make some manicure appointments at a reputable nail salon. They will help her clear up the 'cuticle' biting, and once her nails begin to look better, she will find other avenues to handle her stress. Masage therapy will also help to calm her down. Be supportive! Offer advice, and help her to reach her 'nail goals'. If you are constantly on her about the condition of her nails and cuticles, it will only get worse.
