hairloss and regrowth after chemotherapy

I used to have straight hair.I developed lymphoma is march of this year.I went thru 4 months of chemo in which my hair fell out. ny hair has been growing back since august but very slowly. it is very very curly and the hair shafts are thin. i am terribly embarrassed by my appearance. I feel like a sheep.I am told that this is common with chemo patients. question is ,will my hair grow out and return to straight with thicker hair shafts or can I resort to some kind oof chemical straighteners to help resolve my delema. Im sure there are many cancer patients out there with the same predicament that would truly appreciate someones knowledge and experience in dealing with these matters.sincerely,thank you
