Soak the entire nail in acetone until the artificial coating has softened and can be easily pushed from the nail plate with an orangewood stick. You will have to cut the length back so there is no undue pressure or possibility of the nail repeatedly bending in the same spot. You might try wearing your nails at a more active length to remove the possibility of nail damage in the future -- especially if you are a very active or 'sporty' person.
