: Apologies if this is the wrong board, but I am not sure where this post belongs. I have realtively short hair, but it becomes incredibly puffy without hair care products (gel, mousse, etc.). The problem is that when these products dry and the seal is broken, it often becomes very flaky and looks like I have intense dandruff. I don't think it is actual dandruff because it just washes right away and doesn't regenerate. How can I be sure this isn't dandruff and are there any products that don't cause this excess residue. Thanks in advance.

Many times we are tempted to use too much styling aid, and it builds up on the hair shaft only to appear as flaking later on. Try this: after washing your hair, lightly dry it with your blowdryer until it is just damp. Apply a small amount of the styling aid you prefer and evenly distribute it throughout your hair. Complete the drying process with the blowdryer. Afther your hair is completely dry, you can apply a little more (the size of 2 green peas) styling aid to smooth the hair. Remember, in the case of heavy gels or mousse, LESS is more.
