: Please help my son!! I have a 9 year old who suffers from extremely severe scaly scalp. I usually have to keep his hair buzzed because it gets so bad a comb gets stuck in it. We have tried every shampoo under the sun, docs won't prescribe anything. Once a week or so we have to sit down and pick out the hunks of dead scalp that have accumulated otherwise his hair will start to mat up. It is really gross and also excrusiating for him. I am quite sure that by doing this, it just stimulates more oil production which only seems to add to the problem, but I cannot get anything that helps. We have even tried alternating shampoos, home remedies, and I'm almost ready to shave his head!! Please someone HELP!!!

By all means, take your son to a dermatologist. I too have Seborrheic Dermatitis of the scalp and believe me, I understand fully what you are dealing with. I have tried various shampoos, both over-the-counter and prescription. I have had the best luck by alternating with Denorex shampoo and a shampoo called Bakers P&S. It is very hard to find, you may need to have a pharmacist order it for you, but you do not need a prescription. It has worked quite well for me. Good luck!
