: i have oily skin and i was just wondering if there is a reason why it gets oily and if theres a way to stop it. please write back hormones cause your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. unless you take pills to alter your hormone levels, there's really nothing you can do to stop the oil without putting something on your skin. what a beautician told me to do (which works really good, in my opinion) is 1)wash with a gentle, soap-free cleanser 2)exfoliate with either a lotion or a scrub 3)disinfect with hydrogen peroxide--keep it away from your eyebrows and hairline and 4)put a thin layer of unflavored milk of magnesia, leave it on for 10-15 minutes and rinse it off. you could use a clay mask, but magnesium is thinner and absorbs more oil than clay.
