: I have a son 8 ,and i noticed he has a bunch of little "pits" or "pin sized dents" in his nails (toes too). What does this mean? should i be concerned??
: PLEASE write back!Yes, you should be concerned -- pitting of the nails can signify nail psoriasis. Psoriasis of the nails is characterized by raw, scaly skin and is sometimes confused with eczema. When it attacks the nail plate, it will leave it pitted, dry, and it will often crumble. The plate may separate from the nail bed and may also appear red, orange or brown, with red spots in the lunula. This is a highly contagious condition. Consult with a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment. Go to the link below to find a picture of nail psoriasis. It is toward the bottom of the page.
