: : My 7 year old daughter has 20 nail dystrophy and a dermatologist gave her Dovonex and a steroid cream to rub into the nails nightly. It has been about 2 months with no real result. It has not been enough time for a new nail to grow yet but I donot feel optimistic. The physician did not seem very optimistic when she prescribed it. What experience has anyone else had with this condition? Any info is greatly appreciated.

i am 18, and have had 20 nail dystrophy since i was about 9 or 10. my nails are thick, rough, and tend to separate from the nail bed. i know i dont have a fungus because they tested my nails. supposedly, it is an inflamation of the nail root,(the area under the skin where the nail is produced) and causes the nails to grow deformed. i have heard that there is no cure, and a topical cream would probably not help since the condition is internal. my doctor said it could potentially go away, but who knows. i just file them to make them smooth, and wear nail polish. it is a nuisance, but hides the icky nails pretty well. i also have lots of peeling skin on my fingers, does your daughter have a similar problem?
