I would not suggest having any type of nail enhancement applied over you nails due to the already existing problem. Alopecia Areata effects the fingernails because nails are made from the same type of protein as hair. You might want to read the web page entitled 'Your Natural Nails' -- especially the section on 'The Building Blocks'. I think this might answer some more of your questions.
