: Hi -
: I have had acrylics for years and recently decided to change over to gel nails in that they look nicer, cleaner and do less damage to nails. The first time I had them done in gel the technician removed my acrylics, buffed my natural nail bed and applied the gel. I was really happy. On my next appt I went to a different shop and they applied what "I think" is acrylic and then gel on top. Could I be right? If so, is this a good procedure? My nails dont seem to look quite as natural again. thanks

Gel nails are more flexible than traditional acrylic, although either one can look just as natural. It all has to do with the technicians expertise! If you liked the first girls application, why did you go somewhere else? It is always advisable to stay with one technician as it gives her time to learn your nails and your habits. Many technicians are now using a gel sealer over the acrylic -- all this does is hide any 'imperfections' in the application and seals the acrylic. Any product that is improperly applied, finished or sealed is not going to look good or wear well. Go back to the first technician and see if she can 'fix' them for you so they will look the way you want them to. No amount of schooling is nearly as good as the training one can receive after school at trade shows or educational workshops -- a good natural eye for design is always a BIG plus!! FYI: if you want to see a really good, natural looking set of acrylic nails, go to my website home page. that's what everyones nails should look like!!
