: For as long as I can remember, I have had trouble waking up in the morning. I move very slow and some days I don't even have the energy to move. I set my alarm for 6am but then I reset it for 7am and I end up being about 15 min late every day. I get very mad at myself and even if I prepair my clothes and lunch the night before I just can not get into the swing of it. I am 26 years old and I don't have the energy I need. I am slightly over weight, if that has anything to do with it. Or is it that I am not sleeping well. Why do I feel so tiered? I would like a energy boost in the morning and get to work ahead of schedual and be early. I don't want this to effect my career. Any suggestions???

Dear Susan,

Have you ever heard of sleep apnea? I'm not sure of all of the specifics, but it basically is a condition in which you kind of "stop" breathing in your sleep, often, and can wake up feeling not rested at all. Do you have a partner? Does he/she say you snore? That's the first sign. Depending on your available time, and health insurance coverage, it might be good for you to go to a sleep clinic and have them check you out. If you are not getting into REM (rapid eye movement) sleep mode, you will be more tired in the morning. You may even be able to have your doctor put you on an apnea monitor at home, which monitors what's going on in your sleep.... I would also make an appointment for a full physical, to check your bloodwork, blood pressure, etc. Since you have a career to worry about, I'd get it checked soon! Hope you feel better!!!!!
